Can we get a mortgage refinance or modification?

My husband and I have been struggling with our bills for a while now. Late last year he lost his job and it put us behind on our bills. We have been a month behind on our mortgage for what seems like forever. If we get any further behind, our lender is threatening to start foreclosure proceedings.

I have a work at home job that does not bring in stable income. It’s difficult for me to look for a job outside the home because our 8 year old son has ADHD, ODC, Tourette’s and Asperger Syndrome. Needless to say, he requires extra attention at home and with his homework. We also have a 2 year old that keeps me pretty busy.

My husband is currently working third shift, 36 hours a week, which is considered part time so we have no benefits. This past summer, my husband started going to school in order to provide us a better future.

My oldest son does get SSI disability but that money is only for his needs. We are also on medicaid and food stamps. We have bad credit including a bankruptcy from 2004.

If we could only find someplace that would either refinace our mortgage or if we could just consolidate all of our bills at a decent interest rate, we would be in a lot better shape.

We are good people who have had an incredible run of bad luck. All we really want to do is pay off our debt and start building our retirement and our children’s education fund. Is there anyone out there who would help us?
Oh yes, one more thing, we already tried the modification with our current lender and they turned us down because they had taken a loss with us with the bankruptcy we had in 2004.
